Well I saw a documentary once back when I was in Saudi Arabia where it said that when they circle and stamp their feet on the ground, the feet stamping is meant to disturb the shaitaan.

I have a couple of e-books which claim to hold evidence from shariah for tawassul, but I haven't gotten around to reading them...

I don't understand the shrines and circling. Sorry. Tawassul is established in Fiqh, but shrines and circling it, I'm not accusing them of anything, but I don't understand at all how theyc an think its good, especially the circling part.

Assalamu alaikum
I have to say there are really nice ideas in Sufism. I especially like the concept of every Muslim being a servant to a sheikh who would in the process teach him everything from childhood until he becomes a man. This kind of obedience to a sheikh will teach you things you wouldn't be able to learn through lectures or schooling. They also have very nice poetry.

On the other side of the coin, al tawasul (or having mediators to god) is a very bad negative.

May Allah guide us all.
Wassalamu alaikum

SubhanAllah, there are many methods of performing dhikr, just because it might seem foreign to us does not necessarily call for its condemnation.

Shaykh Faraz writes:

Assalamu alaikum,

Many may be surprised, but:

Imam Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Allah have mercy on him) has a fatwa on the permissibility of the Shadhili hadra in his Imdad al-Fatawa, volume 5, page 151 in the Darul Uloom Karachi edition.

The question is specifically about the permissibility of the Shadhili hadra, and the answer is 3 pages long. The conclusion is that loud dhikr is permitted in all its forms, and none of its forms should be deemed impermissible.

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani.
