Online Qur’an Reading Contest – Good idea?

So in the spirit of Ramadan starting, most likely, in 10 days, inshaAllah, I was wondering if all the people that read this blog would want to participate in a Qu’ran reading contest. Basically, there will be a section on this site dedicated to the contest, showing stats with daily updates of who’s ahead. We can all participate anonymously or if you want with your name, nickname, blog, etc. Each participant will update me on how much they read and how far. I’ll make this simple chart to show whos in the lead.

Comment if you will be interested in this. JazakumAllah khair.

Here are the details of the contest (may change before Ramadan starts):

  • Anyone can participate from any part of the world. They must be able to submit their status on the number of ayat read by either e-mail, IM, phone, etc.
  • The number of ayat (verses of the Qur’an) read will be the measurement.
  • Participants can be anonymous or use there name/nickname/website/blog on the contest stats page.
  • More details coming soon.

This is still in the beginning stage. So please feel free to give me feedback. 😀

  1. Salam…I think that this is a great idea…what’s with Ramadhan coming and everything….At least you can motivate people into doing better things during Ramadhan…who know maybe someone will Khatam(finish)the Quran during this contests…Just a question do you guys Tarawikh at a mosque every night during Ramadhan or do you do it at home???Just wondering how the brothers and sisters celebrate Ramadhan in other parts of the world…
    Massalam..

  2. Waalaikum assalaam wa rahmatullah,
alhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadhaan is so close and praise be to Allah that He SWT chose us to live to see it also this year.
Your idea is great, I will definately participate inshaAllah!!!
I read my Tarawieh-prayers at home, just on weekend and fridays in mosque, but I would love to read it everyday at our mosque.

  3. syukur,
a timely move, in this way each of us can motivate each other in this holy month,
but i recommend, please also while reciting the quran , read also the translation, for the true meaning of quran is the message for us to lead our daily life, takwa, faith and trust in Allah,
Wish all the best to my fellow muslim brother and sister,

I go to Masjid on the days I can. When I was a senior in High School, I was able to go every single night.

This year I will only be able to go Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights. Inshallah I will try the other nights when possible.

  5. Salam akhi..

thats a real interesting idea..sounds good!
Just one Q though..wouldnt it be a bit like showing off ones ibadah? The competition for the sake of Allah is a good idea inshallah..just as long as people dont want to be at the top to prove they beter than the rest if you know what i mean.

May Allah grant us the ability to strive this forthcoming month and make the most of the blessings of Ramadhan. May Allah shower our days with His Mercy , our nights with His Noor and help us help each other for the extra rewards, Ameen!

  7. I can’t participate in your reading contest, but I did want to bring a website to your attention, Mideast Youth. The author is Esra’a (Bahrain). The website has joined other bloggers for freedom around the world called Freedom’s Zone, of which I am a member blogger. I think you will really relate to the articles there, also your readers.

The following post is of particular interest for Muslims and incudes pictures you won’t see on the MSM.

Let me know what you think.

I hope you are well, happy and back in school for the new semester.

  8. Surah Ma’ida:48 “To you We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that has come to you. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He has given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which you dispute”

Towards the latter part, Allah swt encourages us to strive in good deeds, actually race with each other to do so. So alhamdulilah for this idea!!
