Canadian Intelligence not so Intelligent

TORONTO, Sept. 18 – Canadian intelligence officials passed false warnings and bad information to American agents about a Muslim Canadian citizen, after which U.S. authorities secretly whisked him to Syria, where he was tortured, a judicial report found Monday.

Muslim held by U.S. was sent to Syria for interrogation

What’s really sad about the article is that, the man was tortured and beaten in Syria for months in a jail cell. He was absolutely innocent. I hope this guy sues for millions of dollars!

Arar, now 36, was detained by U.S. authorities as he changed planes in New York on Sept. 26, 2002. He was held for questioning for 12 days, then flown by jet to Jordan and driven to Syria. He was beaten, forced to confess to having trained in Afghanistan — where he never has been — and then kept in a coffin-size dungeon for 10 months before he was released, the Canadian inquiry commission found.

I guess if you can’t torture them in the U.S. you find a country that you can do it. Imagine how many others are being hurt by illegal and unjust methods. They basically force you to say things you didn’t commit.

Yeah, this was a big deal since 2002. It was a major scandal in Canada, since the US deported and tortured a Canadian and Canada’s government had helped out. They hate Guantanamo even more, apparently. Critics called him a liar until it turned out that flight logs proved which plane he flew on.

He has a website now, and made a timeline. When he was released in 2003 (due to lots of pressure and lobbying), he went into painstaking detail what had happened to him for the entire year. It’s quite a story, thank God he’s released.

      Assalamualaikum,

I heard an interview with him on NPR the other day and he was saying that they don’t even say “were you at this place at such and such time” or “what are your ties to this”…all they say is ‘CONFESS! CONFESS!’ without really specifying what he did. Idiots. May Allah’s curse be upon the enemies of His servants, ameen!!
