Well…although he does say that yes, the image of Islam does look bad by the ‘westerners,’ well of course, what do you expect? 9-11 happens, Middle East happens, the pope makes a quote, and violence turns out…ya…but of course, I know that most Muslims are peaceful and loving, however, this is my point…as a priest bombed an abortion clinic years ago, the pope condemned that act and makes it clear that it is not the Christian thing to do…Muslim leaders need to speak out against those ‘hooligans’ and let it be known to ‘westerners’ and fellow Muslims about how to ‘protest’ or what not.

Anyways, I think the reason why the Pope Benedict XVI, is to bring up the issue of what is happening today…so take advantage of it and use this as a way to get your message across. And the Pope does speak of love to Muslims.

I couldn’t find the patriarch’s letter on the zaytuna.org website. It would be interesting to read though. At least the vatican apologized, it took them centuries to apologize to Gallileo.

The media contanstly show clips of Osama and his idea of the West and assimilate that to Islam. Their trick is they show it over and over and over. This way it is instilled in people minds. An educated person can easily see through this, however many are easily convinced. This tactic was used by Bush when he constantly said Iraq had WMD’s. Fact is Many muslims have and do condemn 9/11. But you’ll never see that on TV because the media doesn’t want to show Islam in a positive way to Americans.

I can remember on the one year anniversary of 9/11. On TV, They were reflecting on 9/11 – have a few speeches & the reading of names. This was on every channel. Before they read the names, they had different ministers speak a priest, a rabbi, and an Imam. The Priest and Rabbi’s speeches were broadcasted on TV. When the Imam was about to speak, they cut away and the suprising part was no channel showed the Imam’s speech.

However, the pope’s comment was a direct insult and hate filled critique of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). How he did not realize the implications his comments had for Muslims is beyond me. He should have made a better apology than he made. It seems to me that he was trying to get in a cheep shot against Islam and Muslims. If a Muslims made any similar comment(s) about Christianity, I am sure he/she would be labeled as a terror-preaching Muslim.

Thank you sunnilink and Ignatius IV.

It seems that some Americans think of Muslims collectively, like if one of us does something illegal we are all guilty. I think I read a letter in the New York Post (Ya Allah) from a reader thanking this Muslim for not only condemning, but actually apologizing for 9/11. On the other hand all the letters about the pope’s remarks urged him not to apologize for what he did individually and said he was proved right by violent protests by Muslims.

Not really a good source to cite, but on the other hand I didn’t see anything in he American media that agreed on condemning the comments.

Are you smoking crack, Ryan? You say the Christians won’t do violence. You are such a big HYPOCRITE! What about the KKK? The Crusades? The Muslims attacked first? It was you and your people who destroyed us Muslims. It was you and your country, the States, who killed Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq. You’re such a BIG LIAR.

RE: Ryan and others who dont like him:

      First off, please calm down….

Ok, Ryan. Thanks for your post. The problem with what you say is that there ARE Muslims who publicly oppose (muslim-related) terrorism and actively propose methods to counteract it, including educating Muslims about what to do and not to do in cases of anti-Islamic propaganda, etc. In fact, its part of their job, and most of them are called Imams, or religious leaders.
The statement: “Why don’t we hear about the Muslims that oppose terrorism…” is a completely wrong question because it does not take into consideration the NON-publicized voices of SO many peope in Muslim communitites. Also, the above statement should not allow the inference of the ‘existence of extremist Muslims’ as a pure consequence of the lack of publicity of the opposite.

Once again, brothers and sisters in Islam, please exercise patience when speaking to others with different views.

      Jazakallhukhairun

MR posted lots of links to muslim scholars condemning terrorism. Just because the media hides this, doesn’t mean muslims are not speaking out.
The post was made August 17,2006.

can one of you repeat for me please the part where mohammed talked about “killing the infidel”? then define infidel for me because i am not positive as to what that entails.
yes i believe that there are probably many muslims who condemn terrorism and do NOT want to kill americans, but according to what mohammed said it seems like they are not being faithful if they are being peaceful with his ideas of spreading the faith with the sword… please explain, thanks.

hey bro, first of all if you got that from the Quran then you are probably referring to the time when the Meccans broke a peace treaty, and it was Allah not Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) who ordered the Muslims not to be scared and to fight back and kill the infidels and if they repent take them to a safe place, so please understand the context of the Quran and the Sira(the revelations of the Quran according to the life of Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H)) and you will see that no where does Islam encourage us to kill.
