   ahh mannnnnnnnnn i need to make up the 30th fast now - lol- i was at unease about celebrating eid after 29th w/o zaytuna..but had to stick with my community/family- :(( we need zaytuna is new york-lol

   Eid ul Fitr (here) in UK was 24th October not 23th Oct, stop following Saudi Arabia and start following your own horizons.

   Next time Saudi say “jump”, you should reply “you first”

   I totally agree that any fitan brought on by any group, “wahhabis” included, needs to end bro. but this is so far beyond that! the “fiqh” council of north america (not affiliated with any particular maddhab, or ‘wahhab’ / ’salafi’ sect) used calculations and bypassed sighting altogether!

   this is not a ‘wahhabi’ problem. bulldozing sacred islamic sites in and around the holy lands, now, that would be.

    I don’t see the point of this post other than a catalyst for more fitnah. I usually respect your blog, but this post has sadly lowered my levels of respect.

    When will people realize that Muslim unity is more important that fiqhi nuances?

    And for the all the people who said “Now I have to fast an extra day,” learn Fiqh as-Siyaam and realize that you don’t have to.

    Unfortunately, abdelrahman has a lot to learn. It’s amazing when you have novices commenting on Shaykhs. In January of 2000, Shaykh Yusuf al-Qardawi issued a fatwa that those who celebrated Eid on Jan 7, 2000 (ie. Saudi Arabia) were wrong, and his fatwa was to make up a day of fast. i guess he has a lot to learn as well? if unity is as shallow as fasting on the same day, i guess our Ummah has no depth.

    Subhan Allah. If I made a mistake then I made a mistake.

    But according to the ijm’aa, if a person who is ‘adl, that is ‘trustworthy’ (sane, practicing, good vision) says they see the moon, then you are no longer accountable for the sight of the moon, and your Ramadan starts or ends, respectively.

    So if an Imam of a masjid in Cali and 5 of his students said they saw the moon, as well as people in Arizona, and they were confirmed, the the people who celebrated Eid on Monday have nothing to make up, as people who were ‘adl saw the moon and declared the month of Shawwal.

    Sister Henna, the majority of UK did Eid on 24th October, i live in London where the central masjid is run by saudi wahaabis, people in london follow saudi, not us sunnis though.

    As for the wahaabi fitnah, it is indeed the fault of wahaabis/salafis/ahle hadith etc. that eid is being celebrated on two days in the same country, if they (saudi wahaabis) discontinued the use of the umm al qura calendar then eid would be celebrated on the same days in the majority of the world.

    FACT : Moon rises in the west and sets in the east, how saudi arabia see the moon before western countries is beyond belief every year, they dont sight no moon, they just use their umm al qura calendar and have already decided the eid and ramadan dates for years and years to come, they are the cause of worldwide (eid, ramadan) fitnah.

    i have personally seen the umm al qura calendar, from what i have seen, saudi will (wrongly) announce Eid ul Adha this year, to be on 31 December 2006, making it 3 eids in one year, when in actually fact, there should be 3 eids in 2007.

    p.s. 3 eids in one year is a major sign of the coming of Imam Mehdi (as)

    Depending on what school of fiqh you follow as to who and how many ‘adl people sighted the moon.

    P.s. if u look at the skyline long enough to sight the moon, you will sight something which is not there but which you expect to be there.
