Habib Ali Al Jifiri is a Sunni scholar of the Shafi’i madhab. He lives in Tarim as stated above and is also a direct descendant of Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (So don’t let anyone say that the only true descendants of the Prophet SAWS are Shi’a, cuz it is not true). People say that no Sunni and Shia should exist. That’s impossible. The only reason why we started calling ourselves Sunnis was because of the warped beliefs of the Shias.
It’s easy to say that let’s not call each other with such names but those names must exist to differentiate ourselves from those who have wrong beliefs. We might as well say, let us not call ourselves Muslims and let’s call ourselves Christians or Hindus for the sake of unity! We call ourselves Muslims because we hold different beliefs than the Christians and Hindus and ppl of other religions. So the names have to exits. What must be eradicated is all the hate and animosity which exists between the groups. It’s just sick to read everyday about what’s going on in Iraq. Saddam was the one who had both of them under control. There’s nothing wrong with having those names…just like Hanafi and Shafi and Maliki and Hanbali…what is wrong is when we become haters and killers. Otherwise, those names have to exist.
