I love how the crowd was shouting “Allah hu Akbar”. Anyways, may Allah (swt) accept his good deeds and guide him on the straight path. Ameen. This is positive dawah, but I don’t know if it’s permissible dawah, and Allah knows best.

I dunno…kinda weird having quranic recitation at a mainstream hip-hop concert. but then again, it’s fine when its at a muslim hip hop concert or a muslim entertainment session at a conference. so then i guess i’m just thinking too deep into it.

The biggest sunnah of the Prophet pbuh was Dawah and he told us the best way of doing it and it certainly didnt include music and concerts. In addition, Dawah is most effective when done through words and actions.(and action of being in a hip hop concert and praying for guidance is …….)Allah knows best!

I can’t lie, from time to time I still listen to (intelligent) hip hop. But I remember this one instance when a brother who was particularly anti-music likened “Islamic” hip hop (i.e., of the sort that Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco produce) to “making dhikr on the toilet.” Astaghfarillah.
Not sure if I agree with him, but the analogy is powerful nonetheless.

MashAllah this brother is on point with his lyrics and the content is sincere. His new album is almost done, and you can check out some of its tracks on the Myspace page: “Qahira” is an all-time favorite of mine (and will be for any Egyptian who listens to it) and “Martyr Musik” is simply SICK.

On those that ask whether this was permissible in terms of us supporting it, I would think it would depend on whether Lupe Fiasco and his father were Muslim. If the answer is yes, then some would argue it is ok as da’wa can be achieved in many forms and as we know, the Qur’an can come to those in a language they understand.

i have four weak points… two are gettin dealt wit one i didn go through so much and one is hip hop which is hard but with Allahs help maybe i can get through it(but tru say with Allahs help I CAN)
