Shaykh Hamza Yusuf – Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunna wal Jamma

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (may Allah preserve him) was interviewed by the Islam Channel in the UK regarding his latest book, The Creed of Imam Al-Tahawi. I have the book and I read more than half of it already. It is reallly well written and the translation is very good for non-Muslims. The Creed of Imam Al-Tahawi or al-Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah is the aqidah of Ahlus Sunna wal jamma (the majority group of rightly guided scholars of Islam) or the creed of Sunni Islam. There is no differences or controversial material within it. It is widely accepted in the ummah.I have added my own notes after each video. There might be some mistakes, so watch the vidoes!

Sheesha is banned in the UK

Shout out to Adeel for this. Check this article out from BBC news on the new ban of sheesha in the UK. Ulema have passed fatwas declaring that sheesha is haram here. Those sheesha cafes on Steinway (Queens, NY) might want pay extra attention to this, since the US might follow along just for the heck of it.

Pipe dream

The impending smoking ban in England could spell the end for cafes which practise the ancient habit of shisha.

“I know this is going to sound like a strange description,” said Kate as she inhaled deeply on her shisha pipe.

“But it’s almost the equivalent of being on your own and getting into a lovely fragrant bubble bath.”

MR was down last night and this morning

Alhamdulillah the site is back up, except for the missing sidebar to the left. During the MR downtime, many of my friends and myself came up with some conspiracy theories:

  • Some hardcore Islamaphobes didn’t like my site, since I’m showing how peaceful and cool a Muslim can be, especially with my T-Pain post.
  • Some hardcore extremist wasabis tried to put an end the takfirs of shaykh Hamza (astagfirAllah) in the comments here which were making them look bad.
  • MSA National didn’t like my Independent Study.

These are all false! They are not true! The reason my site was down, was becuase my host couldn’t handle the amount of hits, pageloads, and memory usage that was incoming into my site, so it went down.

So basically, I’m most likely contemplating to change my host.

Independent Study on MSA National – Voice your concerns!

After my post, “Is MSA National Dead?“, and Maniac Muslim’s”How screwed up is MSA National?“, I have decided to do an independent study on MSA National. Basically it’s an online survey asking all Muslim students some questions about MSA National and what they think it should be and how to improve it. The results will be compliled and be sent to MSA National and be available on the site, inshaAllah. Names will be kept anonymous inshaAllah (only Allah, a few angels, couple jinns and myself will know who said what).

Anyways take 5 minutes out of your time to fill this survey out.

Updated Counter: 98 people have given naseeha to MSA National

Please spread it around to your MSAs and friends, inshaAllah. JazakAllah khair! Thank you!

Is MSA National Dead? [Updates: 3]

Update 3 (6/21/07) – MuslimMatters.org has an article, “MSA National: We can’t let it die!

Update 2 (6/20/07) – I have launched an independent study on MSA National in order to properly compile and organize criticism and suggestions.

Update 1 (6/19/07)Maniac Muslim writes How screwed up is MSA National?
Jinnzaman blogs his reflection to “Is MSA National Dead?”

Everyone knows that MSA National is one of the oldest Muslim organization in America. For all those on the MSA National mailing list you would have received a bunch of emails regarding nominations and elections for the 2007-2008 period. There are two major issues I have with MSA National here:

  • Issue #1: Only 6 nominees were selected for 9 positions. The election should have at least 18 nominees, 2 for each position.
  • Issue #2: All 6 nominees are sisters! Relax sisters. I have nothing against sisters taking leadership positions, but when there are no brothers involved in such a large scale Muslim organization, I am concerned.

Issue #1

Regarding the first issue, basically what happened was that MSA National sent out a bunch of nominations emails making it seem they were desperate for nominees. Then they finally sent out the ballot and to my surprise, each position only had 1 person running or no one running for it. Usually ballots have people you can vote for not a list of each position with one name next to it.

Let me break it down to you why this seemed so surprising:

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf defends the Wahhabi Saudi Ulema

Check out this interview with Riz Khan from AlJazeera English, especially the part 7:51. Some guy calls in and blames the “Wahhabi Sect” for terrorism and look at Shaykh Hamza’s response! MashaAllah!

This is a great sign of unity. It’s almost as if all the mainstream lines of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamma are about to converge. Alhamdulillah!
Or
This is a sign of fair unity amongst differences. All the mainstream lines of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamma are straightening out into a parallel formation.
