The Sunni Unity Pledge

Imam Suhaib Webb has posted a pledge entitled “Pledge of Mutual Respect and Cooperation Between Sunni Muslim Scholars, Organizations, and Students of Sacred Knowledge” in which scholars like Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Shaykh Mokhtar Maghrouri, Imam Muhammad ibn Adam, Shaykh Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf, Imam Tahir Anwar, Dr. Abdal-Hakim Jackson, Shaykh Abdullah Adhami and others have signed.
Basically the pledge can be summarized into no condemning and “takfir’ing” of the different creeds, no attacks on scholars of different views from creed to fiqh to anything in Islam. In other words just love your Sunni brother and khalas! Imam Suhaib has added the list of scholars and activists who have signed it, so I’d like to make a list of all the Muslim bloggers around the world who endorse this pledge. Comment if your blog supports this pledge!
The story of the Pledge: How did it start?
There was a conference with a number of scholars in Wales in which Sh. Abdullah bin Bayyah was giving some lectures and presentations. After it was over the scholars including the above mentioned decided on what to do. The pledge idea came up and all the individual scholars thought of some points and it was compiled by Imam Zaid Shakir. It was then expanded with a mailing list and more scholars gave feedback and then it went public.
What you can do to help spread “The Sunni Unity Pledge”?
- Make dua and act upon it!

It is interesting to see the trends as they form, right in front of us.
I have a blog that covers news, politics, and pop culture.
However it has been more of a communication experiment about social networking.
I have set up audio, video, with viral activity on you tube.
Only now are PR and marketing companies understanding the importance of the internet.
The point being that there are many new, economical ways to communicate on a large scale. Social networks form the core, because traditional word of mouth advertising is still highly effective.

This pledge is nothing less than falsehood and for the sake of some dunya they have sold their akhirah out. There is only 1 creed and there is only one Islam, that is the Athari Creed which was the Creed of ALL the Sahaba and the thabieen. The Ashari creed is a perverted creed, and is rejected by the early scholars of Islam.
This is a War on Sunni creed by the western heretics.

You wrote (in a forum message posed May of 2007) “Sh. Waleed Basyouni, Sh. Yaser Birjas and Sh. AbdulBary Yahya have also signed it.”–i.e. the pledge. Can you please post a comment explaining where you got that information? I have been looking for an updated version of the pledge and the document on muslim matters still does not have their signatures. I am not really posting to support the pledge–as I don’t agree with it and Allaah knows best–but I would like to know who has signed it.
