The Empire State Building is doing Eid on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Empire State Building on Eid

NEW YORK (AFP) – New York’s iconic Empire State Building is to be lit up green from Friday in honor of the Muslim holiday of Eid, the biggest festival in the Muslim calendar marking the end of Ramadan, officials said.

“This is the first time that the Empire State Building will be illuminated for Eid, and the lighting will become an annual event in the same tradition of the yearly lightings for Christmas and Hannukah,” according to a statement.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month, is expected to be celebrated in New York from Friday, depending on when the new moon is sighted, and the city’s tallest skyscraper will remain green until Sunday.

  1. damn, the non muslims figured out how to be unified quicker than we have – unity through diversity

hanafis are still better though 😛

    ‘Eid Mubarak y’all!

  2. Its not important whats the actual day
Whats important is the day your mom is making and giving you food
Its even more serious when you’re Afghan and its Afghani food 🙂

Of course im joking about the first line

  3. MashaAllah! That is quite awesome, especially given the backlash Islam and Muslims received and continue to receive concerning 9/11. As a Muslim living in America, this is quite a big gesture by New York City toward recognizing the Muslim community in NYC and America for that matter. It is always nice to see Islam and Muslims portrayed with respect, instead of incorrectly being portrayed as people who hate “freedom” and want all non-Muslims and Americans dead though jihad, a concept which the non-Muslims do not correctly understand.

There are drunks all over Manhattan scratching their heads right now wondering if they somehow missed St. Patty’s day.

Ha ha that is too funny!

  5. For all the talk about clashes, reformations and all that junk, this is the wave of the future, period. someday it will be as normal being a muslim in usa as it is to have a pizza or a bagel. Imagine that.
