The more cowardice we victims of crime show ourselves to be the more arrogant and ruthless our attackers become. There's no guaranteeing that this man wouldn't have shot her anyway even if she had been submissive. The fact that she scared off her attacker might make him think twice before harming another person (if he's smart.) So yes, even if she were to die she would've been a marytr because she would've at least put some fear in the criminal's mind and deter further crime. why do you think we have the 2nd amendment? Thieves should have some fear too and its ppl like her that keep them in check while the rest of us give them the green light to do anything they want (hence more and more crime in our society.)
