Lil Wayne says “and the almighty power of Allah” in the song “A Millie” featured on one of his songs from one of his mixtapes. It is also strange how the radio versions of the song replaces “Allah” with “dat chit cha cha cha chopper”. The song was so popular that it was added to his new album coming out “C3″ and guess what, the album version also replaces “Allah” with “dat chit cha cha cha chopper”.
Most of you probably may not know, but Lil Wayne is probably the number 1 rapper in the Hip Hop world right now. Imagine the thousands of people who will hear “and the almighty power of Allah”. I’m sure you’ve seen people on the subway or buses rapping or singing along to the songs from their iPods. They may be unconsciously saying “and the almighty power of Allah”. Now most of you probably are like, so what? Who cares if some non-Muslim rapper mentions “Allah” in his rhyme. Well if you don’t care that’s fine, but I find this interesting how Islam appears in some form in the most unusual of places. You never know if one person might be like “Why is Lil Wayne saying ‘almighty power of Allah’ in his song?”. Then that person may do some research, find some Muslims and strike up a conversation on Allah. Only Allah knows what his plan was when he willed it for His name to be mentioned in such a song.

Lil Wayne has sold out like all of the other mainstream black rappers and when I hear his songs I am utterly disgusted because him ( as well as many others) are not uplifting black folks by singing about nonsense crap. Alhamdulillah it seems great that he is mentioning Allah in his music but its awful when you hear black children saying they want to be like him when they grow up (and I have heard this). Know this wasnt the intent of your post but this is what came to mind. May Allah guide him and the rest of us.

He came into the music business as that type of rapper. a “BLING BLING” rapper, you can’t really say anything he is what you call a gangster rapper. So he is doing what he does, you cant be like Notorious BIG, 2PAC, Eazy-E are all sell outs because thats how they came into the game in with. I think some us are being a bit foolish and painting with broad brush strokes. First, what exactly is gangster rap? If gangster rap involves talking about gangs and such, than that would be a gangster rapper is someone who sings about that subject for than 50% of the time. Lil Wayne does not.
Now, second. While I admire Mos Def and Talib Kweli, it is foolish t suggest that they are holier than others simply because we agree with their message. If you listen to Common, he speaks about just as haram things as Lil Wayne does, yet few people would call Common a gangster singer.
And people always complain that rap doesn’t uplift black folks. What does that even mean? Lil Wayne is from New Orleans, he only talks about the stuff he knows about and well, if you know a thing or two about the underdevelopment of New Orleans, you would know that there aren’t too many uplifting things in New Orleans to talk about.
And yes, its not uplifting in any sense. I am trying not to make any assumptions about your ethnicity but if you understand one thing about black people its that they literally idolize these rappers. Its almost like a culture. So what they say shape and mold the way Black people (more specifically black children) perceive themselves. People will emulate them down to the stuff they wear and say. The fact that he lives in New Orleans is not excuse whatsoever for the nonsense he sings about.
The only thing I know about black people is that they are not monolithic and thus, it is foolish to make ANY statements about black people as a whole. It is the same for Muslims or any other demographic. It is just not accurate to paint with broad brush stroke. Also, if you go into the hood, the people that EMULATE Lil Wayne and other rappers actually LIVE that life, As for the people who dress like rappers and such, those are largely white kids and well, lets be honest, alot of our Arab and Desi brothers. I personally do not see a problem with that, but let us clearly see the difference between the two.
And this is part of the problem. When immigrants move here, the first people we are told to fear are blacks. Why? First, we as Muslims are not supposed to be racists (btw, im not implying that you are) and we above all people should know that lumping people into one large category is false. Some of these statements sound alot like those on right wing sites, except, replace Black with Muslim and Gangster Rap with Terrorist.

Okay I must admit - I love Lil’ Wayne. Yes he sings about the haraam but there is no point even going in to that as most music today is haraam in general. He isn’t Muslim so why would he sing about anything other that what he does? That is the culture of the non-Muslims- they do un-Islamic things…*shrugs*
Secondly, whatever the reason Weezy has said what he has, he’s said it. It can be positive or negative, just as most of his material. Yes, the content of his material is questionable, but unlike some, he isn’t just about that. He knows what sells and so the songs which are released would be mainstream.
Also, it’s not just his music. He has been done for coke and things which wasn’t exactly kept under wraps. He is not the greatest roll model, but why are people here cussing him raw? He’s human, he’s non-Muslim so it’s not as if you have to help him and also, I’m sure none of us are perfect here.
Oh, and there are black Muslims-why is everyone talking about black people as one body, mind and culture? Not all black people are living in the ghettos or listening to Lil’Wayne on repeat. There are little white kids and Chinese kids listening to him too. yea part of lupe’s muslim identity def comes out in his music. at the same time, you have to keep in mind that in terms of being a muslim, hes just a regular one like you and i, with his own attributes and his own faults. so while hes definitely a better rapper than most, doesnt mean people should look up to him in terms of the way he practices his faith. i just enjoy listening to lyrics that actually mean something and manage to flow better than most.

To be honest, i found this site because i was looking up some names that i had heard in Wayne’s songs (e.g. Eliot Ness). But I would first like to say that I am Black, also I am Catholic. I do not claim to ba anythimg more, or less for that matter.
I grew up in New Orleans, and while, i have grown financially and am now successfully free of the slums, I am proud to say that is where I originated. It built my character, and I respect that Wayne stays true to where he originated.
I would like to say that i was initially offended by the comments being left about back people as a whole, but thankfully some of the previous writers took up for my people as well as the Muslim people as a race.
To change subject’s, mainstream rap is what we make of it. By this I do not only mean Blacks. We, as Americans, define who we are. That, I believe is one reason Lupe (Wasalu Muhammad Jaco) is able to rapso freely about the way he feels. His underground mixtapes are inspirational (for instance: “Muhammad Walks”).
Lil Wayne does not literally mean what he says. this is by no means to be considered a justification for what Wayne has said and what he has clained to have done. When he said “bomb,” he could have honestly meant to lyrically destroy. Because, in case it is unclear, many times he does. He also lyrically “kill[s]” his oponents. often; he provides a play on words to draw attention to a subject. By mentioning Allah in any form, i believe he is raising awareness, whether it be consciously or not. And to believe otherwise is absurdity. If it were not so, I would not have searched, found this site and diversifying myself and my intellect by open-mindedly learning of the Islam faith.
I believe that is what “monett88″ was trying to explain. Although this person did themself an injustice by writing so ignorantly, he did have an important point. Now, I am not sure whether this young man (I only call him that because he writes like most people text. I would know being that I am only 18 myself). is Anglo-Saxon, Eastern, African-American, or what have you. I though know, however that he is a follower of a Greater Being to say the least. He also, like myself, listens to the likes and stylings of Lil Wayne. But that does not make us any less intellectual.
Now, by saying this, I mean no disrespect, but in my opinion and the slight grasp of the concept refferred to as haraam, I do believe that for the ones who did judge us (Black people) were slightly guilty of these sins for which they are judging gagster rappers. Little Wayne can obviously say anything he chooses within his music and by no means does anyone have the right to judge what is in his heart and I certainly hope my posts didnt come off as though I was judging his character. Judging his choice of lyrics tells a lot about the message he is trying to put across. I would like to think that I am not the only one who thinks they are anything but positive. Theres no God than Allah, and Muhammad is the profet of Allah. Like in Quran says (Surat Ikhlas): Qul huwa Allahu ahad, Allahu-us-samad, lam yaled walam yuulad, walam yaqun lahu kufwan ahad. -English (The Only One): Say He is Allah, the One and Only. I might didnt spell it right on Arabic but what im trieng to say is you dont have to see Allah (As-takhfuru Allah al-azeem = Forgive me) just become a Muslim, God/Allah is testing us if we have the patient to choose the right religion and unfortunately no one has the gift of patient. Even me, im a palestinian Muslim, before i didnt pray to Allah, and I prayed to Allah to help me pray to him so i dont end up in Hell. Then one day I dream a very very very weird dream, that is so beautiful that you want to do everything to have the same dream. I dreamed once that we were 5 people standing (I dont why). There were 3 un-muslims standing front of me and my friend and it was like a war going on that what i know in my dream. Then i take a gun, and shoot the 3 people. Then suddently something evil comes inside me, the face of it is like an evil monster trying to kill me so then i asked my friend to shoot me, so me and the monster will die so it doesnt go after my friend, after it kills me. Then he shoot me, and im dead. I woke up in a dark place, i guess it is the place where God justified you. Then I said: O’ Allah, please lead me to Jennah(Paradise) and not Hell. God leaded me to the paradise in left side and it was really dark, then i walked and walked till i saw a door open a little bit, and I see a beautiful shining light behind the door. It was the paradise. That shows me that God is trieng to tell me that if I do pray, and become a good muslim, I would go to paradise. Now the real paradise is in the right side, but God leaded me to the left.. Why? It’s because, Allah is trieng to tell me that sometime im good muslim, and sometimes im do bad things. Subhana Allah. I wish you all Christians/Budha/Jewish or other religion to wake up and see whats going on. I bet that none of you Christians had the same dream as I did, maybe you dreamed that you were in heaven/paradise, but not the same dream as I did, because mine has reasons, mine has the answers to my problems, to the things I do. I wish you all go to paradise wish me Inshallah, even Muslims, Christians, Jewish, Budha or other religion, just wake up and learn about Islam and I wish you all become muslims and pray to the Only One so you can join me to paradise inshallah. I know some of you want to know what Inshallah means.. i guess it means in English: In God’s call. I have a Christian friend that dreamed he ended up in Hell and I wish for him to become a Muslim so he can join me in paradise inshallah(in God’s call) because he is a real good friend and I dont want him to end up in Hell, so thats why everyday i talk to him about Islam and he learns more. I hope you all will think about it, may Allah help you to go to the right way, so you can earn to end in paradise.

Anyway, I don’t like lil’ wayne, he mentions Allah’s name in his song and then it gets changed, has he done anything about it? Actually, Allah is not the arabic word for God.
Allah is A God. As in, he is THE God in which Muslims believe in. It’s like hindus believe in Vishnu. If Wayne was to say Vishnu, instead of Allah, it would be different. Vishnu does not MEAN God. He is A God, totally unrelated to other religions. Allah is not a general term for a higher being.
