@Name – The Prophet Muhammad (saas) said even Islam would decline in the near end. This is fact. We will all eventually die and this earth will eventually end, because the infinite life is the life after this. Our actions will decide where are final abode will be.

Also with all the wars that were fought during the Islamic conquest of Arabia, North Africa, Europe and Asia, it eventually collapsed and now we have the Muslim world cut up into pieces. The same with the British empire. The same with the French empire. The same with the Spanish empire. The same with the Incas, Aztec, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Tigris-Euphrates, the Persian empire, etc.

No war is beneficial. Not a single one. In the short or long run.

At the end of the day we are all travelers in this world just passing through.

War does not bring solely destruction.. One of the reasons we are involved in Iraq is to protect our interests in oil..this isn’t as blatantly projected in the media as the “war on terror” but the more the U.S. stays on oil, the better the U.S. dollar can be maintained. As you may know oil is traded in USD..

I’m certainly not or the war in Iraq but destruction is NOT the only outcome of war in general as you stated. Prophet Muhammad was a War Leader if you will as well.. “Every single empire, civlization, country, kingdom that went to war has ended up being destroyed and conquered due to war.” So the same holds true for Islam as led through numerous wars by the Prophet Muhammad?

@Name – The Iraq/Vietnam comparison may have been used and brought up already, but it was my first time hearing it and by the audience’s reaction it was probably the first time they heard it too. You have to remember that a good perecentage of Muslims attending this conference have not taken US history and know nothing about Vietnam other than the US lost the war.

If you think that the Iraq war will benefit America, then you are more foolish then me. War does not benefit anyone. It has been proven in the past. War only brings destruction. Every single empire, civlization, country, kingdom that went to war has ended up being destroyed and conquered due to war. Every nation in the history of mankind rises and then declines. This is the nature of history.

God is the most just and any unjust action done by any person or nation will face the consequences.

however i think u missed the point on Imam Zaid’s talk. Inshallah ill try to post some notes from that talk (and other talks that I attended and took notes on) on my site. He was primarily comparing Barack Obama’s ascent to ISNA’s ascent.

The Vietnam/Iraq comparison has been used and brought up for a while now.. I don’t know why you aren’t familiar with it. For the most part its used to describe a ongoing war with no victory, even so Iraq is significantly different from Vietnam otherwise. Iraq is an investment if you will for the U.S. even with the lives lost on both sides, you’d be foolish to think America isn’t benefiting/won’t benefit in the long run.
