September 11, 1822 – Catholics accept Earth revolves around the Sun

On 9/11 in 1822:

The College of Cardinals finally caves in to the hard facts of science, saying that the “publication of works treating of the motion of the Earth and the stability of the sun, in accordance with the opinion of modern astronomers, is permitted.”

Catholics figured it out 186 years ago and we got it 1,429 years ago.

“And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit.” (The Qur’an, 21:33)

We also have to give a shout out to the Greeks, Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Chinese/Indian empires who also beat both the Catholics and Muslims 2,000+ years ago.

  1. That isnt entirely true.

That verse just told us that the universe is not stationary, but rather the stars and planets (and their moons) are moving in orbits. It doesnt differentiate between the geocentric and heliocentric models.

In fact, early Muslim scientists believed that the Earth was indeed at the center of the universe, and that the sun and other planets revolved around it. In fact you will find in many classical texts drawings of the universe in which the earth is clearly at the center.

However, Muslim scientists did in fact develop the heliocentric model long before Copernicus in Europe.

  2. about that quran verse u posted to me looks like its talking about the sun and moon orbiting around the earth. i dont know i cant really see how that is saying the earth goes around the sun.
