The 10 days that are better than Ramadan!

The ten days of dhul hijjah are upon us:

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” They said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything.” Narrated by al-Bukhari.

Don’t forget about the Day of ‘Arafat:

It was reported from Abu Qutadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah. He said, ‘It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.’ Narrated by Muslim.

For those who are participating in Hajj and will be at Arafat on this day, then you are not suppose to fast, becuase the Prophet (saas) did not fast while at Arafat. Then again, if you are reading my blog during Hajj then…well let’s hope your not on my site during hajj! :-D


May Allah (swt) forgive us all! I recently blogged about Busta Rhymes song, Arab Money, and how it was insulting to Islam, Muslims and Arabs, but now his remix has gone way to far!  Although this is a huge dawah incentive, becuase many people will inquire, “What is Busta saying?”. This is an open letter to them:

Open Letter to Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, Akon and Swissbeatz

Bismillah

Asalamualykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh my dear brothers in Islam Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, Akon and Swissbeatz.

All praise is due to Allah (swt).  Lord of the worlds.  It is Allah whom we worship and only Allah we go to for help.  It is Allah who has given us everything and it is Allah who will take everything away.

Busta - I recently heard your song called Arab Money and I was disappointed at it.  I posted my reflection here.  Now you have a remix with Akon, T-Pain and Swissbeatz who are also Muslims a long with other rappers like Diddy.

All of you understand that the Qur’an is the word of Allah (swt) and that it should be treated with the utmost respect.  I am not going to judge your intentions but only give you sincere advice.  I am not sure if you are aware of the ruling on music in Islam but I advise you to seek knowledge, read the Qur’an, the Hadith and consult with Muslim scholars in America regrading music in Islam.

It may be your intention was to praise Allah and give thanks to Him for all the money you have been blessed (or tested) with which is a good thing, but the way the song is presented is disrespectful and may stir emotions amongst the Muslim community.

I sincerely ask you to check out Halal Tube and listen to some lectures there.  You can download the audio lectures in MP3 format and add it to you iPod/iPhone and listen to it while you travel around the country and world.

Anything good I have said is from Allah (swt) and anything bad I said is from myself.  Please forgive me if I have offended any of you.

American Black Friday Stampede Kills Man at Walmart

This is disgusting and sad:

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

Mumbai Attacks [UPDATE: Some victims were Muslims]

Update: Some of the vicitms are Muslims.  You can see the list here.  Many of the names are clearly Muslim such as Mohammed Ansari, Abdul Shaikh Sohel, Abdul Razak, Asif Mohamed, and others.

These are attacks are really sad, becuase India has a large population of Muslims and some of the victims undoubtedly are Muslims.  Regardless of who the victims are, all of them came to Mumbai to stay at the hotels and visit some amazing architecture which Muslims built.  Now we have some idiots who claim to be “mujahideen” killing these innocent people.  Really makes me mad on why some of these terrorists think when they do these things.  Then again these terrorists do not follow the Qur’an or Sunnah.  They follow their leaders who have brainwashed them.  There is also a possibility that they could not be Muslim and just a group trying to make Muslims look bad.  I can definitely seeing extremist Hindu groups doing this.

There are Muslims in the government, in the police, in the army, in the hospitals and everyone in India (even in Bollywood!).  I pray and hope that these attacks will not bring a wave of Islamophobia in India against the majority (99%) of the Muslims there.

On another side note, the news media has calimed that the “Deccan Mujahideen” have claimed responsibility, but the US inteligence does not believe that.  I don’t have a source, I just heard it on CNN on TV.


What happens at an AlMaghrib Class?

For those who have never taken one and may be interested, a few brothers and myself did live blogging at the Light Upon Light seminar at Geroge Mason University with the student tribe, Qabeelat Nurayn.  You can check out all the videos here.  Also Ilmfest 2009 will be at Nurayn as well.  Shaykh Yasir Qadhi announced it here.  For those in the Maryland, Virginia and D.C. area the next class will be The Shepherds path taught by Sh. Sh. Yasir Qadhi on Tawassul and Wasila

I am taking the class on the AlMaghrib class called Light Upon Light in Virginia with the student tribe (Qabeelat) Nurayn (MD-DC-VA), which is taught by Sh. Yasir Qadhi. The first session was a review on the first class, Light of Gudiance. After it was a over one of the students asked about tawassul and wasila. These are not the exact words, but he asked Sh. Yasir if it was permissible to ask Allah by the rank of the Prophet (saas) or the rank of a pious person. I’ll be honest, I thought Sh. Yasir would simply answer denying this and saying it was biddah, kufr and shirk. I was wrong. Not only was I wrong, but I was way off. Sh. Yasir basically said that their are two opionins within Sunni Islam and that both sides have their scholars and proofs. He said he believes it is impermissible and does not recommend it. He also said that he does not condemn anyone who defends it because they have a “galaxy of scholarship” on this.

That surprised me. He was very respectful and didn’t condemn the other opinion. MashaAllah!

Would Malcolm X support Barack Obama?

I’m sure many of you have heard about the news lately. I don’t need to bring it up here. It got be thinking though, would Malcolm X (rah.) support Barack Obama? Based on his lectures, articles and autobiography that we have from his legacy, one can assume that after he performed Hajj he was open and relax on his views of White Americans and non-Muslim Black Americans.

In my own personal opnion, I think he’d be just like Imam Siraj or Imam Zaid or any of the Black American Muslim leaders we have today.  I think he’d also be extremely critical and question Obama on all his motives and moves.

Dick Cheney is a Criminal, Indicted in Texas!

Alhamdulillah! Obama, please keep Guantanamo Bay open for Dick Cheney but free everyone else.

Texas grand jury indicts Cheney, Gonzales of crime

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A grand jury in South Texas indicted U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and former attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Tuesday for “organized criminal activity” related to alleged abuse of inmates in private prisons.

The indictment has not been seen by a judge, who could dismiss it.

The grand jury in Willacy County, in the Rio Grande Valley near the U.S.-Mexico border, said Cheney is “profiteering from depriving human beings of their liberty,” according to a copy of the indictment obtained by Reuters.

The indictment cites a “money trail” of Cheney’s ownership in prison-related enterprises including the Vanguard Group, which owns an interest in private prisons in south Texas.

Former attorney general Gonzales used his position to “stop the investigations as to the wrong doings” into assaults in county prisons, the indictment said.

Cheney’s office declined comment. “We have not received any indictments. I can’t comment on something we have not received,” said Cheney’s spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

The indictment, overseen by county District Attorney Juan Guerra, cites the case of Gregorio De La Rosa, who died on April 26, 2001, inside a private prison in Willacy County.

The grand jury wrote it made its decision “with great sadness,” but said they had no other choice but to indict Cheney and Gonzales “because we love our country.”

Texas is the home state of U.S. President George W. Bush.

Bush and his Republican administration, which first took office in January 2001, leave the White House on January 20 after the November presidential elections won by Democrat Barack Obama. Gonzales was attorney general from 2005 to 2007.

Kansas Preacher Pushes Obama Muslim Message

WICHITA, KAN. — A Wichita, Kansas preacher says he will not remove a message on his church sign that says President-Elect Barack Obama is a Muslim.

The sign is staying up despite the fact that Obama is a Christian.

The sign at Spirit One Christian Center reads, “America we have a Muslim president. This is sin against the Lord.”

Obama supporters reportedly got into a shouting match with parishioners outside the church on Sunday.
