Obama Haters/Lovers – Bush is still the President!

There is a lot of love and hate in the Muslim blogosphere regarding Obama and his moves after he became President-elect.  I’m neutral right now, because Bush is still the President until Jan. 20, 2009.  That’s more than 2 months of Bush’s policies.  Obama can select all the people he wants in his cabinet and talk about all his policy changes, but nothing will happen until January 21, 2009.

Now the Obama lovers and haters have a few things in common.  They fail realize that Obama is:

  1. …not a Muslim, so he’s not subject to the Qur’an and Sunnah
  2. …not in control, because Bush still is.
  3. …not the best President ever since [insert current best President], because he has not even started his Presidency.
  4. …not perfect.  He’s not even close to being perfect.  He’s made many mistakes in his campaign of which Ralph Nader highlighted a few.  He’s also made mistakes as a Senator (voting for the billion dollar bail out plan which gave the crooks more money to thrive off of).
  5. …not going to please everyone.  He will especially not please Muslims, because many of us don’t really care about American politics nor participate in the government.  So those who don’t care, will not be cared for.
  6. …not going to stop killing Muslims.

And lastly the most important fact to remember is that Barack Obama is President-ELECT.  He will be the President of the United States of America and Commander-in-Chief on January 20, 2009, inshaAllah.

Remember, we still have more than 2 months of Bush!

This post is dedicated to HAhmed, Jinnzaman, Obama fans at MuslimMatters, Muslim Republicans, Egyptian Gumbo, Sulayman, Tariq Nelson, Umar Lee, Abu Yusuf, MOFW and the rest of the Obama lovers and haters in the American Muslim Ummah.

For the rest of us (including myself) who are neither the Obama hater or lover, please join me on my blog on Jan. 19, 2009, to celebrate the last day of Bush.

    Word.

I’m getting quite tired of the speculation about how Obama will be the best/worst president since whenever. It will not be until well after Obama is out of office that we can truly appreciate how good/bad Obama even did (well, bad may be obvious quicker). We’re still ‘discovering” things that make us rethink Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, and Clinton (1?)…

  3. MR November 11th, 2008 at 12:06 pm

@egyptian gumbo – then eat some basboosa on Jan 19, 2009! hahahaha

  4. Dawud Israel November 11th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

You Muslims never seem to want to ask the Jewish Muslim guy about this stuff…do you?

Anyways, MR I propose you start a “Obama-free Blogosphere” initiative because I know this will flare up again and really is a useless discussion- unless everyone is planning on a mass hijra to Canada. :)

  5. genieyclo November 11th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

Party on the 19th of Jan? I’ll be there!

  6. VM November 11th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

Honestly? I’m sick and tired of the Obama love that is going on, especially by Muslims. So what if he has a second Muslim name or that he is black? That won’t change a thing! Ugh. I realise he is better than Mccain and Bush, but that doesn’t mean he is an angel and will work in our benefit.

  7. Sulayman November 11th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

You’re right about #6, he won’t stop America killing Muslims, but considering the options, I hope he can get the least number possible killed. There’s already calls by Karzai and Zardari to have America stop the air raids, which kills an unacceptably high number of civilians. Inshallah Obama will follow their requests to try different strategies.

Obama inherited a real mess from Bush. No matter what he does, every scenario of ending the Iraq war will make people die, whether Iraqi or American. He will of course get the blame for those deaths, although I don’t think he deserves most of it. Tough choices ahead, and we’ll have the luxury of playing critic at home.

  8. manoffewwords November 11th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

You forgot to mention me themanoffewwords and I didnt forget anything on that list of yours. My point has always been that the dude is a scam, but being a politician is what makes him so scammy.

The fact that people are so in love with him is worrying because the won’t see through the hype.

Anyway here is an article by James Abourezk on why Arab Americans voted against their own interests when they voted for Obama.

  9. Egyptian Gumbo November 11th, 2008 at 5:03 pm

haha not a chance. Obama will share no such basboosa with me!

I’m not a hater or a lover of obama, I just pointed out people’s misdirected and over-bearing love for him is a little too much and people have gone too far.

Just look at facebook and all the people who changed their profile pics to be “obama” i mean how fan-like and “he’s my hero” can you get?
Muslims say they shy away from doing that with athletes because it’s

“unislamic and they arent our heros” but then they do it with obama? what a double standard.

I’m done talking about this, I’m about to write a new post on my blog because I’m bored of the obama-talk..

I kind of want some basboosa now though.. hmm.

  10. ReggaePoweredDC2 November 11th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

I have long thought that Muslims in America should stop trying to figure out which elected officials will benefit Muslims, here in America, and those around the world.

So Obama will most likely not help Muslims around the world, and may not even help those in America. But that’s not his job. His job is to help Americans.

So instead of voting for the person who will or wont help Muslims, vote for the person who will help Americans.

  11. Usman Akhtar November 11th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

You know, 2 months is plenty of time for the first black president-elect to get shot……that’ts what im worried about – alhamdulillah mccain didn;t win, cuz if he did, and he died from cancer, then i wouldn’t be able to handle obnoxious Palin, as Americas pres, for the rest of my life.

  12. Sulayman F November 11th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

” i wouldn’t be able to handle obnoxious Palin, as Americas pres, for the rest of my life.”

Haha, yeah Palin would make our lives VERY short indeed.

  13. MR November 11th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

    Palin is worse than Bush.

  16. isra November 11th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

    i agree with jinnz-

ive been cussed out by muslims, been defriended on facebook, and yelled at numerous times when muslims in my community found out im not pro-obama.

its like you said something against their momma or something..

Salaam, this is a Bush Hater here (not an Obama hater/lover)

According to Iraq Body Count, 97,084 innocent people were killed in Iraq. Now take that number, add all the hundreds of people who died in the tribal regions of Pakistan (Musharraf sent troops there because Bush threatened to attack Pakistan if he didn’t), the thousands killed in Lal Masjid (that was also on orders from Bush), the people being killed in Afghanistan, the hundreds of thousands killed and being killed in Palestine (because Bush helps and supports Israel and supplies WMDs and other weapons), and the thousands killed by Bush on 9/11, and you get the number of people George W. Bush is responsible of killing. How many? 1 million? 2 million? We can only guess, but we know its a lot.
May Allah make Bush pay for his crimes. Ameen

Its not about being an Obama lover or hater.

All of us realize how crappy a situation we as a country are in – and how we as Muslims in this country are in terms of wars, economy, corruption, war profiteering, civil liberties violations, torturing, secret prisons, gitmo, islamophobia…. etc.

The issue here is how we choose to respond to all of this.

We can either work towards making a real change – or just complain on the sidelines. I hope we agree that we need to be in the former group and not the latter. B*itching and complaining isnt going to solve anything.

Now as for how we are going to work towards making a change – we can try to reinvent the wheel – or work within the (admittedly inherently flawed system we have). What is more practical?

I personally believe it is most beneficial to support those candidates we have most in common – and yes this requires us to compromise on some issues. Politics is not perfect and we should not view it as we do our religion (as Amir has alluded to). Barack Obama is more representative of our needs as Muslims than any other politician I can remember, aside of course of the Muslim congressmen we have (who have wholeheartedly endoresed Obama).

Moreover, another pertinent issue is how we want to keep our mindset. Personally, I try to be optimistic (yet cautious). Most of the “Obama haters” are purely pessimistic skeptics – and i find that unhealthy.

    And Allah knows best.

    Assalamu alaikum

The problem I have in people who support Obama is that the primary reason they support him is not so much his policies, but more that they didn’t like the Bush administration. The question they fail to ask themselves is: what produced the Bush administration? What he a rogue individual that accidentally came to power? Was he a dictator who developed his foreign policy in a vacuum? I think a person who has a critical mind will be able to discern elite forces from individuals with clever slogans. Bush and Obama are merely representations of larger forces operating within American society. If one looks at the history of the country, it is one filled with the same types of violence, violation of other country’s sovereignty and international law. If one looks at the root causes of these sorts of actions, they originate in the structure of class and power in America. Obama’s election is a superficial change. In fact, it doesn’t matter how radical of a president we elect, unless Congress and the Supreme Court changes, then the system as a whole will continue to function in this manner.

Without understanding how a system operates, the talk of change is futile. You can’t stop a forest fire with a bucket of water. Voting for a President from one of the two parties is like this. Now, the common argument used to justify for one of the two parties is “It won’t make a difference.” Well, voting isn’t really making a difference either, with the minor exception of those living in swing states. For the rest of us, real change can happen by working at the local and state level of government and by supporting individuals and platforms that we agree with, such as the Green Party or the Libertarian Party. Until we have a national and international strategy for the American Muslim community, we will continue to make short sighted decisions and fall for carefully phrased propaganda developed by public relations firms.

    masalama

  21. Kearns November 12th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

@jinnzaman I think perhaps you mean history of the current two parties, or perhaps history since WWII. The US was quite different in the 17th and 18th centuries (though perhaps not much different to First Nations).

I believe that both the Green and Libertarian parties are growing, but party change in the US takes time, and the election system is stacked against new parties. In addition neither the Green nor Libertarian parties fit the “Muslim” community any better than the Dems or GOP. Personally I am Green, but there are things the Green party does that I don’t really agree with (one is nominating what appears to be crazy people). I’m sure the Libertarian “hands off” approach has it’s appeal, but again there are things the “Muslim” voting block will agree and disagree with there as well. And creating a “Muslim” party in the US isn’t really possible with US style democracy.

That being said, everyone go register Green!

  22. Yousuf November 12th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

    Assalmu Alaikum

@Kearns I don’t think Ralph Nader or the Green Party is the best because Ralph Nader is 75 years old already, and they don’t have all the support needed to win an election.

One thing I really really want to happen now that there’s “real change in Washington” is that the Bush Administration be brought to JUSTICE.

    @yousuf

    w’alaikum asalaam,

Actually Ralph Nader isn’t in the Green party, and this past election he ran as an Independent, the Green party nominated Cynthia McKinney.

Plus it’s not all about the President. Contrary to what the current administration thinks, the power is supposed to lie with Congress…

Muslims kill muslims. Are you people so blind that you cant see that?
Islam has been in the business of killing each other and everyone else since its INCEPTION.

Right NOW, this very instant some sick muslim is killing another sick muslim in Darfur. Conservative estimates that over 1 million people have been killed in this latest GENOCIDE, and its all muslims!

Whatever grievance you have with the US Army is shameful.

I hope Obama is a great president, for Americans who love America.

    (hint hint)”

yeah i see where ur coming from, but i think it is a real sad reality for our ummah today, no?

There are muslims dying out there by Americans and other people in the West, but there are also Muslims from places like Palestine, Pakistan, Indonesia, etc., that have celebrated the winning of Obama whose foreign policy is not much different than McCain or Bush. For what reason are they celebrating? One could argue that its because voting in Western countries IS good (especially when voting for Obama), but I think one could also argue that they’re are no real Muslim Leaders in the world that the muslims can look towards for help, so now they’ve looked to their oppressors for hope. As Malcolm X Diagnosed, these are the “house negroes”.

    Oh no he didn’t…..

  29. Yousuf (Bush-hater) November 13th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

Everybody is talking about how good or bad Obama is gonna be. We should be happy!!!! We should be celebrating!!! Bush is leaving!!! It’s what we all wanted!!! That’s also the point of the post!!!!

Muslims can’t really count on Obama to be awesome, but it’s better than Bush.

    A Bush-HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Yousuf (Bush-hater) November 13th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

    Two more things—

I didn’t know Ralph Nader switched… he really was in the background.

    …..

Who the heck is Cynthia McKinney?????!!!!!! Never heard of her.

  31. islam is evil November 13th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

    @sulayman
what part of my post is wrong? its the typical muslim response to call the poster a racist(even though muslim is not a race). i could care less what the color of your skin is, but your “religion” is terrible. mohamed meets not of the criteria for being a prophet, he does however meet the criteria for pedophile and mass murderer.

    take care all,
I pray Obama can solve these issues.

  32. Sulayman F November 13th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

No, Muslim is not a race, but intolerant people treat it like one. You’re more of a bigot than a racist, but since America’s education is so bad that bigots will probably think I’m calling them fat.

If you don’t agree with Muslims that Muhammad (pbuh) is not a prophet, then what are you doing here trolling on a Muslim blog about an Obama post? Why don’t you go find a relevant chat room.

  33. islam is evil November 14th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

intolerant people treat it like one? Are you retarded? Muslims are the ones who yell and scream about racism whenever questions about the legitimacy of their religion come up, it’s not the other way around. A muslim speaking on intolerance is almost shocking, islam is the most intolerant religion ever devised.
In any event, my original post concerned the op’s statement that obama wouldn’t stop killing muslims. My question to you muslims is this, when are you going to stop killing each other? You kill more of each other then the Americans ever will. The US Army is a drop in the bucket compared to what you people do to each other on a daily basis. So why the concern with that? Seems to me that you are getting caught up in the little details and missing the big picture.
    Religion of peace…lol

  34. MR November 14th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

@Sulayman F – islam is evil is actually a really depressed person as you can see from their words. they are frustrated and lost. we have to help them.

@islam is evil – you seem to be very depressed and lost. you are so worried about islam and muslims that you continue to come to my blog and this post to mock, attack and ridicule. i understand you may be going through some hard times right now. please feel free to share your pain and God willing, maybe someone on here will give you some good advice.

the prophet (peace be upon him) said “smiling is charity”

    so smile :-)

don’t be sad, you can change and improve yourself. the past is done, focus on the future and your personal goals. don’t worry about the chaos. focus on yourself and your family. do good and live righteous.

thank you. may God guide you.

  35. Yousuf November 14th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

What Muslims are killing each other??? I know Musharraf and Zardari have killed a LOT of Muslims, but they aren’t Muslims themselves. The crimes they have commited and are commiting are beyond the level of calling them Muslims. Besides them, some Shias and Sunnis get into fights, too. Islam doesn’t allow this, so you can’t say Muslims kill each other because of that.

“islam Is Evil”, you need to realize that just because some Muslims disobey Allah and Muhammad (SAW) and kill each other, it doesn’t mean every single Muslim is “evil” all of a sudden and Islam becomes tan “evil” religion.

Hitler was Christian, in case you’re wondering. He killed 6 million people, many of which Christians. I’m not saying Christianity is “evil” because of that. Some people are evil, but they do not take their whole religion with them.

Muhammad (SAW) never killed any Muslims. He only fought back when attacked by the idol-worshippers of Makkah (which is now 100% Muslim). He is not a mass murderer, nor pedophile. You have no proof that he is any of that; you are just trying to tell yourself that you are a good person for not being Muslim. It’s what all former-Muslims and Muslim-haters do. I suggest you pray to Allah (God) that he may guide you, start to seek knowledge, read translations of the Quran, and try to find the True Path to Paradise. In Sha Allah (If God wills) you will succeed.

I pray that all Muslim-haters and former-Muslims will be guided one day…

    Question: Does Pakistan house terrorists?

Answer: Only when George Bush visits!

  37. Ocrapa November 17th, 2008 at 3:41 am

I didn’t vote for Obama. I never would. He is proving my argument even before he has been sworn in. He is lining his administration with Clinton cronies , and considering Hillary for a high level position in his administration. Another reason: Joe Biden. What a joke he is. Obama said :”For those of you who did not vote for me, I will be your president too.” No Obama Hussain, You will NEVER be MY president. I will never refer to you as MY president. And the sooner you are out of office THE BETTER!

  38. Yousuf November 18th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

    @oCRAPa (aka Ocrapa)

Look, you don’t have to be so skeptical of Obama yet. he might be good.

  39. Ocrapa November 18th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

It is yet to be seen if he is actually what you think he is…. Those of you who DID vote for him will certainly reap what you sowed. And btw, OCRAPA is my nickname for OBAMA.

  40. Ocrapa November 19th, 2008 at 6:43 am

Yousuf< Cynthia Mckinney is a green party Former candidate,(from Georgia). She made headlines with a statement , alledging 5000 prisoners were rounded up by the pentagon, and executed with one bullet to the head, and the thousands of bodies were disposed of in a Louisiana swamp, {using hurricane Katrina as a cover. } She also punched a police officer because he asked her for I.D. , and later had her staff members yell antismetic and other slurs at reporters. She is obviously a fruitcake we can do without.

  41. Sulayman F November 19th, 2008 at 7:01 am

Now, while I didn’t like McKinney all that much, the punching a police officer bit was overblown. Members of congress skip the security check, and are identified by a pin they wear on their suit jackets. Apparently either the security officer didn’t see it, or didn’t recognize her, so he tried to put a hand on her to stop her and she hit him with her cell phone. She claimed later that he provoked it by trying to touch her.

I don’t know about any antisemitic reports, but they were trying to paint her that way because she was openly pro-Palestine, so I’m a bit of a skeptic.

I knew who that lady who hit the police guy and ran for president is, I just didn’t know her name.

By the way, Cynthia McKinney was on Loose Change Final Cut, and she knows 9/11 was planned and executed by GEORGE W. BUSH.

  44. Ocrapa November 22nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Good grief , If anyone believes that George Bush had a hand at implementing 911 , then their is not a level headed person left in America. If you believe in the words of a half crazed insane woman such as Mckinney, then you will believe anything. I have to remove myself from this blog, as it is full of nut’s . Have a happy life in LA LA land.

the lady who supposedly hit the police is the congress woman who owned rumsfield a few hours or days before the supposed hitting inccident…

what happend is dimecore corperation was involved with women and children’s sex slavery rings. this was confirmed and they still continue to have massive contracts with the government….

so the honarable congresswoman cynthia mc cinney grilled rumsfield over this subject in a recorded congressinal proceding

this was put on you tube immediatly and becasue of her truthfull and couragus demanding of her questions answered for the people. which is what is supposed to be part of the checks and balances

she was mysteriously stopped the next day on her way to vote on capitol hill. she was running late a speeding like mabey 5 miles over the limit. she asked for leanacy so she could make it in time to vote.
the officer supposedly didnt believe she was part of congress and proceded to put his hands on her assaulting her. she grabbed his hands pushing him away and demanded that he stop assaulting her for no reason…
so enjoy this, watch rumsfield fold under the pressure

oh muslims wake up from your self inflicted delusion

we are living in the last age,
according to the annalasys of the highly respected shaykh imran hosein we are in the transition between the 2nd and 3rd day of dajjal on earth.
some tribes of jooj and majooj are swarming the earth right now.
we could go on and on……and allah subhana wa ta ala knows best.
but its really time to think about how you form your thoughts and oppinons. do you ask , ”what do you mean? and how do you know?”"

no one is forcing you to accept his oppinon, but it would be wise to not judge a book by its cover….annalize data, investigate, reflect and then make your oppinon…
do you really think there will be al jazzera announcement? do you think it will be announced at jumma?
    fear allah
use the good sense and cappacites allah gave you
if he is wrong you wasted an hour and got to listen to a mind blowing lecture form one of our ulama who also has phd in international relations and finnance
if he is right it might be your soul
the dajjals fitna is MASSIVE deception
many muslims will be fooled by him.
as the worlds leaders are announcing there plans for one world government in preperation for that
i am giving you advice in the sake of allah, out of love for the umma of rasul allah sala allahu aleyhe wasallam
and allah knows you have been warned
the only thing stopping you form waking up is arrogance

Major wars or invasions Muslims or Muslim countries have started:

    ?????

Major wars or invasions other countries have started:

    1. WW1
    2. WW2
    3. Crusades
    4. War of 1965
    5. War of 1971
    6. Occupation of Palestine
    7. Battles between the Sahabah and the Kuffar of Arabia
    8. Iraq
    9. Afghanistan
    10. Desert Storm
    11. Vietnam
    12. Collapse of Mughal Empire
    13. American Civil War
    14. American Revolutionary War
    15. All France-England Wars
    16. The capturing of millions upon millions of poor Africans and forcing them into slavery. Many of them were Muslim and were forced to convert. That is not a “war’ or “invasion”, but is so cruel it should count as one.
    17. Spanish-American War
    18. The battles that took place between the Native Americans and the White Americans back in the 1880’s, in which all men, women and children (including babies) were massacred and slaughtered.
    19. Many, many more…
    ———————————>

This proves that the answer to the world is ISLAM.

    @David

Actually, you are getting mixed up with the Mughal and Mongol empires. The Mongols were ruthless, brutal, merciless, cruel killers. They converted to Islam and became the Mughals. The Mughal Empire thrived in India for hundreds of years, until the British came in the 1858 and forced Bahadur Shah II, the emperor at that time, to give up all the land.

Also, there was a war first and many people died.

See an image of the British Empire (colonialization) here, and notice it runs through Pakistan, India and Bangladesh:
