I personally believe no amount of money will make much of a difference, if this type of offense keeps happening. Sure, $20 million will help the people of Gaza in short run, but the real question is, what is being invested to stop this cycle of destruction?

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that we should still donate, but what Gaza and other Palestinian occupied territories need are long term solutions. Because without it we are doing nothing but sending money when x amount of people become indiscriminate targets (mostly out of quilt and moral/ethical reasons).

if you delve a bit, youll find out that this money is not being given to Gaza, but to Fatah, who control the west bank and are close allies with the US and Israel.

@z – Even if it’s going to the West Bank, what’s wrong with that? Isn’t the West Bank also suffering as well.

Dude 20 mill honestly is pathetic but what can we expect.

    5. MR February 3rd, 2009 at 6:10 pm

@Harith – Yeah it is nothing, but the best part is the Zionists are probably pissed off. In fact, they’d probably be pissed if they got $1.

I agree with the first comment. $20 million is good for helping refugees recover from this massive offensive but it’s a step. Something more lasting would be to work for peace between the Palestinians and Israelis, which I’m sure Obama will work for and hopefully make more progress than the previous administrations. However, even a step is good, and this is definitely a step in the right direction, so at least that’s a start.

      Any strings attached to it?

so miserly when it comes to Palestine and so generous when it comes to Israel

@MR: z has got a point. The West Bank is controlled by Fatah, which is extremely corrupt. That measly 20mil will barely trickle down to the people who need it the most. It’s all bullshit.

saudi donates 1 billion and its GDP is a fraction of the US.

20 million is peanuts for the US, nice gesture but probably has some strings attached.

how come they they did not mention this in the news?

    13. Fouad.Ahmed London February 6th, 2009 at 4:29 pm

King Abdullah the custodian of the two grand masjids of saudi arabia pledged 400 million dollars out of his own pocket .And 800 million dollars was raised by the public and Private companies in saudi thats what you call money i think. I was also told that Hamas wont be accepting American Money or anything with AIPAC smell on it.
