أعلن الشيخ مشاري راشد العفاسي اعتذاره عن إمامة المصلين في مسجد الدولة الكبير لهذا العام خلال رمضان المبارك، وذلك نظرا لارتباطه بإمامة المصلين بإذن الله في صلاة التراويح والقيام في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في ولاية كاليفورنيا بمسجد المركز الإسلامي في «ارفاين» الذي زاره في عام 2007 كوفد وممثل عن دولة الكويت.
وكان الشيخ العفاسي قد أم المصلين في المسجد الكبير خلال العشر الأواخر من رمضان المبارك لمدة 10 سنوات متتالية منذ عام 1420 إلى 1429 هجرية.
وأقام الشيخ العفاسي خلال زيارته لتلك المساجد محاضرات ولقاءات دينية، كما زار استوديوهات كثيرة في هوليود متخصصة في التصوير المرئي والإخراج كما أكتسب الشيخ العفاسي خبرة جيدة في مجال الأعمال التلفزيونية، وتلقى الشيخ مشاري العفاسي خلال زيارته للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في ذلك الوقت دعوة للقراءة في الكونجرس الأمريكي.

Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy announced his apology in that he’ll be unable to lead salat-tu-taraweeh this year at the grand state mosque (in Kuwait). Instead, due to a commitment he made Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy will be leading salat-tu-taraweeh and qiyam at the Islamic center in Irvine, California, U.S.A., which he visited in 2007 as part of an acting delegation on behalf of Kuwait.
Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy had lead salat-tu-taraweeh at the grand state mosque for the last 10 nights of Ramadan for the past 10 consecutive years (1999-2008).
During his 2007 trip, Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy gave lectures and attended religious meetings. Likewise he visited many studies in Hollywood that specialized in visual photography and output. Also, he gained excellent experience in the field of television. Lastly, during his trip, he received an invitation to recite at the U.S. Congress.

I heard his recitation in person, alhamdulillah, in 2007 when he came to the States. It was definitely something when he did a sit down recitation at a fundraising dinner, but better than that was praying behind him for Maghrib Salah. It was as if someone turned on a CD of Surah Fatiha and Surah Ibrahim or something.

I am from Pakistan. Here in my country if a person who does what I have quoted above 95 percent of the people wouldn’t pray behind him. I wouldn’t either. Now you could go on and say that he went to Hollywood for this-and-that and not for that-and-that but anyway think of it this way, its a kind of subliminal message to the masses that if you are going to Hollywood with a good intention, Hollywood isn’t bad per-se. The problem is that many people who would do that might end up getting into that part of Hollywood which the Sheikh wouldn’t encourage (you know what I am talking about).

Anyways, us MCAians got Sheikh Syed Muhammed Jibreel (Muhammed Jibreel’s older brother) to lead taraweeh. He is the grand quran teacher at Al azhar and he beats all the quran reciters on the net (including Husary, Rif’aat in Tajweed, and Al-’Afaasy in qiraat buety).

I am a Hafez and Qari in South Africa and would like to come to the US (California or elsewhere) during Ramadan in 2010 to perform Taraweeh as an Imam. Could you please let me know if any Muslim community would be interested in my services. I have been reciting for over 50 years, and even took second prize in Quranic recitation in the International Quran Competition in Teheran in 1987.
