“Bassem is trying” – Funny and weird short film

I laughed at the praying and the elevator. Everything else was weird.

the f? I guess it was supposed to be funny, and it kinda was. kinda lame too, but I’ll say it was weirdish-funny. The film was pretty well produced from an editing perspective though, gotta give them that.

I liked it. After all the efforts Bassem made to fit in, and please the people around him, he was still the victim of suspicion and prejudice. A lesson for Muslims that striving to please the creation will not lead to an improvement in our situation; striving to please the Creator is the only way to go. And a lesson to our non-Muslim neighbours: we are trying; give us a break! :)

kinda funny. brings a point across.

but at the end of the day, if we’re praying salaat, or listening to quran, we shouldn’t care what other people think, as long as we’re not causing difficulty or harm for them.

non-muslims seeing us pray, or hearing quran might make them curious about islam and just might bring them toward it!

ie/ the Prophet Muhammad (s) used to pray openly at the Kaba during a period of time when there were very very few Muslims.

We shouldn’t feel ashamed by our religion and we shouldn’t feel that we should hide it, or pretend to be doing something else.

haha…i have to say, I saw this awhile ago and loved it. This video is probably geared toward the most extreme situations. I know that I don’t have to go through that, but if you probably were working in an environment where your co-workers STILL don’t know what Muslims do or what Islam is. Insha’Allah these short films can be an eye-opener to the non-Muslims and allow them to see how we’re not that different.

salaam, this video was released a while ago – and submitted to the LinkTV Muslim Videos concert (http://www.hahmed.com/blog/2008/01/14/bassem-is-trying/)

anyways u should give props to the film maker (Lena Khan) – she happened to win that contest under the “One Minute or Less category” – she also took home the Grand Prize for her “A Land Called Paradise” video.
