Respect to the Brasilian Football Teams!
Diplomatic tensions have sparked recently between Israel and Brazil over none other than a soccer match, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Wednesday.
The Brazilian government decided to extend a gesture to the Palestinian people and hold a friendly game between two of its leading soccer teams – Sao Paulo’s Corinthians and Rio de Janeiro’s Flamingo – in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
With famed player Ronaldo as the Corinthians’ striker and Falmingo being one of the world’s top soccer teams, many Israelis would undoubtedly love to attend the game, but the Brazilians have made it clear that they are not interested in playing in Israel – only in the Palestinian Authority.
Giora Bachar, the Israeli ambassador to Brasilia inquired about the reports in the local media with the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, which confirmed them.
Bachar filed an official protest with the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, but his report to Jerusalem did indicate that the initiative has yet to find a sponsor.
“I intend to make the Brazilians understand that if a similar game is not held in Israel, we will see it as an act of ostracism,” he said. “It would be better off if they held two games, or better still – a joint game for the Israelis and Palestinians.”

Hamza Yusuf on a Presidency of Descending Grace
It is an extraordinary and momentous event to call you president. Your father was of the Luo clan and, as you know, it would be difficult for a Luo to be elected president in Kenya. In our country, while tribe is not an issue, color often is, but you have succeeded in overcoming both clan and complexion, and in doing so inspired millions of people around the world.

The Pakistani government are trying to use “Sufis” to help combat the extremism they are facing. I wonder what type of “Sufis” are part of this advisory council.
Islamabad is set to combat the ongoing insurgency by spreading sufi thoughts and teachings across the violence-wracked country.
Government sources on Sunday announced setting up of a seven-member ‘Sufi Advisory Council’ (SAC) with an aim to combating extremism and fanaticism by spreading sufism in the country, Dawn News reported.
The SAC chairman and some of its members are said to be holding their first meeting at the ministry of religious affairs in Islamabad on Tuesday June 9.
The council will also invite what it calls progressive intellectuals in an effort to promote the flourishing of sufism.
It is not clear whether SAC will play a parallel role in the presence of Council of Islamic Ideology which is a constitutional body.
The decision comes as Islamabad and other major cities across Pakistan have been braced for suicide attacks since the army launched an offensive against the insurgents in the troubled northwestern Swat valley and its adjoining districts in early May.
