The flyer says that 50,000 are anticipated to come. I’d love to know how they came up with that number. If 50,000 show up it’ll make history for sure.

Sad fact is, the organizers of this should have planned with the MD-DC-VA area Islamic Centers and Masajid (Mosques) to not have Jummah and send everyone to the Capital hill and only have one for those who can’t make it. I know several local communities in the area that have 2-3 Jummah times and they will have it tomorrow.
Anyways, inshaAllah Allah will make it a success. Ameen!

Insha Allah, it won’t turn out like this:

MR – I’m presuming they’re ballparking using multiple stats such as the local Muslim population, the amount of local Muslims that showed up for the ISNA convention in DC, as well as allotted capacity.
You could also just call either of those two numbers and ask them how they got their estimate.

A few interesting things pulled up, apparently:
- ISNA is not participating.
- CAIR is not participating
- ADAMS center is not participating
To not have those three major organizations jointly attend a Muslim event in DC definitely raises my eyebrow.
see following link: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/sep/23/attorney-representing-terrorists-organizes-muslim-/
I found a lot of other miscellaneous, right-wing detritus floating all over the net about this event, most of it pretty much crying-wolf types of rantings about the new Fifth Column.
*yawn*

Any updates?

Maverick is right; the event was not planned out. The Congressional Muslim Staffers Association and ADAMS (the largest mosque in the D.C. Metro Area) stated they could’nt help or do anything for a variety of reasons, incl. the timing of other events.
I went to this event, it was amazing, alhamdulillah. The khateeb gave such a truthful and inspirational khutbah, and the whole environment was just Alhamdulillah!
3,000 people only?
Compared to their initial estimates, that’s just beyond embarrassing.
there was def more, FOX News reported 8,000 so it varies. Me and my msa brothers thought it to be around 10,000.
As-salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah. Alhumdullillah, It sounds like it was a very positive event. There is a nice write-up of the day of prayer on islamonline.net. Maybe the organizers could make this a yearly event.
