The End - 2000 to 2009

The End – Mujahideen Ryder’s Blog (2000 to 2009) [UPDATED]

  • Author: MR
  • Date: Dec 31,2009 | 01:37 PM

It’s been a long time with lots of fun, educational, spiritual, controversial and outrageous posts over an entire decade. The blog was bound to come to an end as do everything.

I ask Allah to forgive me for anything wrong I have said. I ask anyone who may have been hurt by my blog to forgive me. Anything good that I have written is from Allah. Anything bad is from myself and the whispers of the shaytan.

May Allah take away any suffering from any Muslim. May Allah remove the injustice around the world. May Allah bring peace to war infested lands. May Allah forgive all the wrong doers. May Allah guide all the misguided and continue to guide the guided.

Oh Allah! Forgive the Muslim men and women. Forgive the believing men and women. Those who are alive and those who died. You are indeed the One who listens and accepts all supplications.

Servants of Allah! Indeed Allah orders us to be just and to excel in what we do. Be generous and to take care of our kin and relatives. Never do what is forbidden of all sins and not to transgress. He almighty advises you so you can remember.

Verily, Salah prevents evil deeds and misconduct.

With that said, my last and final post is done.

Asalamualykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
May the peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you

UPDATE (1/2/10): Some of you suggested a I list resources that I usually go to.  Here are my sources for news articles:

  1. Reddit
I’m on reddit on a daily basis.  It’s basically a community that votes different submissions from around the web.  I use this to get the latest news around the world and in America.  The politics and world news subreddits are very good.
  2. Twitter
I find some of the most craziest links on here.  You have to really search and follow the right people. @IslamBlog and @muslimvoices are pretty good of aggregating a lot of links around the web regarding Islam and Muslims.

List for Islamic knowledge:

  1. Halal Tube
The number one reason I made that site was for myself to organize lectures.  I basically listen to all my stuff from there.  If I find something, I add it.  I know there is a submit form for anyone to add, but I’ve been lazy with that.  Hopefully now that MR has come to an end I will be able to work on Halal Tube more often.
  2. IslamQA.com
I use it to find hadith related to questions I have, not necessarily to find a fatwa.
  3. SearchTruth
Easy way to find things from the Quran and Hadith.
  4. Read!
    I read books.

In other words, I’ll still be sharing information online, just not on this blog anymore!  So follow me on twitter and join ShoutReel!

      Ameen Ameen.
May Allah protect the innocent and the mujahideen everywhere.

      Jazakullah khairan for everything MR.

    2. Al Sudani December 31st, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Very sad to hear that. I was an avid reader of your blog, as well as many others.

      So what is happening next?

    3. Al Sudani December 31st, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Oh, I forgot to say, Shukran for all your efforts!! May Allah SWT reward you in this life and the next! Amin.

    4. iMuslim December 31st, 2009 at 2:26 pm

      Salam bro

One less site to fight against the haters. :(

It’s true that all good things must come to an end… but I still can’t help but ask: why are you closing the blog? Even if you don’t have time to post something everyday, considering the google ranking of your site, it seems a shame to close it completely.

It’s not too late to change your mind… but if you insist, I hope you’ll at least make the archives available.

      Wa’salam

      Mehzabeen

    5. ibnabeeomar December 31st, 2009 at 2:26 pm

      what? why? sad news..

    6. iMuslim December 31st, 2009 at 2:29 pm

P.S., again, considering the impact your site has, masha’Allah, mb you should pass the torch onto someone else, or even a group of people whom you trust? Please don’t throw away such valuable internet real estate. :)

      Btw, that wasn’t a hint, hehe. ;)

    7. Guy December 31st, 2009 at 2:32 pm

      wha?!

nice outro, but yeah, this was one of the more beneficial blogs I’ve seen around…

    8. Al Sudani December 31st, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Yeah definetely what iMuslim is saying. Don’t close this blog. You’ve developed an established and recognized site. All that years of effort shouldn’t go to waste.

If you can no longer run it, pass the responsibility to another Muslim Brother(s) who has proven capabilities in blogging and website running.

    9. Sad to see MR go... December 31st, 2009 at 3:26 pm

First I would like to thank you MR for entertaining us AND letting us benefit from his daily posts. Secondly, I think MR is pretty busy considering him not posting on a daily basis anymore. I don’t want to start something but, there was so much radicalism creeping onto this site. I wouldn’t be surprised if the FBI was monitoring this site. From calling Muslims to jihad to racism against Jews. It was scary and I think MR would enjoy the freedom without worrying about something he doesn’t condone. Nevertheless it’s the internet and it’s free speech so what the heck? Jizakallah again MR. Instead of going on all those fitnah websites on the internet I would always check up on this site. I forgive you for anything that you might have posted to which it might have angered me. I hope everybody else also does the same all in good will. Wa’Asalam.

    10. SaqibSaab December 31st, 2009 at 3:28 pm

Wow! But I can understand the need to move on with projects and efforts in life.

May Allah reward you for everything. I’m glad I met you in real life at ISNA 2008 (funny story now that I think of it, two “internets” identities meeting randomly), and hope that you find blessings from Allah with whatever you’re involved with here on out.

      Your brother,
      Saqib

    11. Manas Shaikh December 31st, 2009 at 3:45 pm

      ASAK bro MR,

I am deeply saddened by this, and can’t help thinking- why must it be MR blog?

Seriously, although I don’t frequent here, when do I come here, I really do learn things, and I enjoy my visits- God, how come MR finds these stuff.

It’s a shock to see you leave, and I hope it’s not permanent.

As some have already pointed out, it takes some time and work to build up a history that gives a blog it’s following and legitimacy. It’s a lot of asset for the ummah that we can potentially lose here.

At the least, please keep the archives available. If not, please share the xml file with us, we’ll see what we can do with it.

Best of all, please do come back. Sometime.

Have a good break. May Allah bless your this life and the next, forgive your sins, and guide you on the straight path.

      Ameen.

    12. Abs December 31st, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Ah Amir, you’ll be back. And we’ll be waiting ;)

    13. Halima December 31st, 2009 at 3:53 pm

      NOOOOOOOO!!!! :/

I really liked this blog, I visited all the time. Well I guess all good things come to an end…..

JazaakAllahu khairan for all the beneficial posts!!!

    14. Hater December 31st, 2009 at 4:05 pm

      Good riddance.

(j/k … as always. Sad to see you go)

    15. Hater December 31st, 2009 at 4:07 pm

I think he gave baya’ to Shaykh Nuh Keller and that’s why he’s closing this blog. We know how it works. Shaykh don’t like his murids bloggin’ and all that.

    16. Aasim December 31st, 2009 at 4:19 pm

      WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

DONT LEAVE!!!! I visit this site everyday; even though I rarely post.

    17. f December 31st, 2009 at 4:23 pm

    18. Modern Girl December 31st, 2009 at 4:47 pm

Thank you for all the work you have put into the blog. As a non-Muslim, I have greatly enjoyed visiting your blog and reading things concerning Islam from a more mainstream and tolerant source.

As a fellow blogger, I realize that it’s a huge commitment to blog, and I congratulate you on making 10 years of it.

Could you post links to other blogs that you recommend?

    22. Chris December 31st, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Mr, listen to me (i am sure others want to tell you the something)
      DO NOT DO THIS
      Do u hear?
If you have an issue or something, maybe we can help. I am sure that u didnt think it through, do u know what u are doing if u stop blogging here? Not just to yourself, but to others. You are a role model for some. Its like a chain reaction. Dont mess it up bro. At least for your readers. May Allah Guide you and us all on to the right path Insh Allah.
Btw, u must reply to at least some of the comments(please), and tell us what u are planning.
I especially hope it wasn’t because of the comments of some people who are just trying to put u down, the ones about the blog or advertisements.
      O_o
(hey fellow readers, help me out here)

    23. Chris December 31st, 2009 at 5:36 pm

      Allah Yahmeena

    24. Hifzin114 December 31st, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Hahaha, just for clarification: MR did not give bayah.
BUT he did get a kitten! LOL

    25. Hamza21 December 31st, 2009 at 6:40 pm

Wow this is catastrophic for muslim blogosphere. At a time when all within all topics on the blogosphere are adapting and changing I suppose some will use this time for an exit. I can’t really hate on that. It’s tough running a blog,VERY time consuming. However I agree with others you should definitely look into allowing others to take this blog and continue on.

Though I mostly post with mixtape/Hip Hop blogosphere (but will be branching out into other subjects soon) I will be happy to contribute a post or two and I’m sure others would be as well.

All you need is at least three bloggers who will post something at least once a week and this blog can continue on. Something to think about you know?

    26. ahmad December 31st, 2009 at 6:46 pm

      salaam MR
I don’t know you personally, but I have been reading your blog for years now, I was a daily visitor. I didn’t post much, just several times. I really found your blog beneficial, and you were good at what you did. Your efforts and legacy in this website and halaltube will carry with you wherever you go.

No other blog compares to yours. You’ve drawn readers from all around the world with one goal, to spread the truth and educate others about Islaam. Mashallah you were successful every minute through it.

All good in the world always has an end, and this blog is no exception. We understand that you no longer have the free time like you did when you were younger, and that you have a family and other responsibilities to take care of.

It’s going to be upsetting for me to take this blog off my bookmarks, because every post I read I gathered new insight and discovered something new. I only wish that you keep this website online, along with your other websites (halaltube) so that newcomers will discover beneficial lectures and blog posts as well.

You’re a good man, MR, never change.
With all that said, I wish you the best of health and imaan, for you and your family, and children and their offspring.
      Jazakallahu khair for your efforts
      Ahmad.

    27. Sista December 31st, 2009 at 6:57 pm

      Walakaykum Assalam.
So sad to see you go. I echo everyone’s sentiments. Most of all, I’m gonna miss the Ramadan Qur’an competition. It was a huge motivation for me. May Allah reward you for all you’ve done and continue to bless you. Ameen.

    28. Atif C. December 31st, 2009 at 7:10 pm

I’ve been following your blog since my friend told me about it two months ago…we’ll miss you bro

    29. ZE December 31st, 2009 at 7:20 pm

      Amir,
      Calling it a day…
May Allah continue to bless you and your ventures…
Gonna miss entries like this rapper took shahada in his latest song:)
      Salamz
p.s. going to be emailing you about a project, inshallah…

    30. Amin December 31st, 2009 at 7:24 pm

Like many of the posters above I have been following this blog for a loooong time but haven’t really posted much (if ever). This is sad news but inshallah your work over the past 10 years will not be overlooked by Allah swt. I wish you all the best for the future and hope that maybe at some point you can come back and blog a bit more.

Jazakallah khair for your efforts. Amin

JAK for your blog bro, it was a great site and it’s true all good things must come to an end. May Allah bless all your endeavors.

    34. AZN December 31st, 2009 at 9:22 pm

I have been following your blog for years and visit often but never post anything. I want to say JAK it was a great website and enjoyable to follow and I will miss it. Thanks for letting us know that you will stop the site instead of posting less and then eventually not posting at all or not telling us at all.

    35. MR December 31st, 2009 at 9:48 pm

      Message from MR:

JazakAllah khair! Thank you for all the kind words. I’ll be real though, my blog isn’t all that great. There are much better less known blogs that are extremely beneficial. Running this blog is harder than usual. For news I usually read reddit and specifically the world news and politics subreddits to get the latest. It’s very good. Maybe I’ll create some type of forum-blog’ish type of site so everyone can post. Maybe the ShoutReel can do this.

    36. nahyan December 31st, 2009 at 10:04 pm

      Ameen.

Dang homie. Add a guest blogger or something, and turn it down a notch for yourself.

Anyway, it’s been a great and beneficial ride for you. mashaAllah.

    40. aadil January 1st, 2010 at 1:13 am

JazakhAllah for all the work on this blog bro. Its sad to hear that you’re ending this blog. I never posted but was a regular visitor for a number of years. May Allah (SWT) bless you in all your future endeavors.

    41. Dawud Israel January 1st, 2010 at 2:06 am

      Salam aleikum,

Dude! You’re the Amir of the blogging world- now where will all the tabloid and rumors go to? I never touched those discussions cuz I figured, “MRs blog will handle it” Your the hungama man!

Seriously, this site was an outlet for discussion and if you stop and review, it had a real impact on the American Muslim community (remember Sami Yusuf, AlMaghrib boycott, and the Muslim rapper dudes?) and played a role in how we’ve learned things.

I think you should consider getting someone else to take over now. How about making MR an American Muslim tradition! Perhaps this is a good opportunity then maybe to hand off your blog to some Muslim activists (Islamic relief, MANA, MAC, or YM) because they could use the web traffic for a good cause and hence give you a sadaqa jariyah?

This is an amanah (responsibility, trust) so don’t take it lightly!
No one just gets up and walks away!!! :D

    42. Dawud Israel January 1st, 2010 at 2:14 am

      THINK ABOUT IT!

    43. al-suyuufi January 1st, 2010 at 2:18 am

      Ameen @ all your dua’s.

The internet will be fairly boring for me now :(
May Allah give you the best.

The blogging world began with you and MuslimMatters.org…It wasn’t just about the content, but it was about making history and being part of history. ‘Till now, you’ve been living history, and I make Du’a that you are blessed to give much Khayr to the world henceforth.

      Will miss this blog :(

    49. Akhee January 1st, 2010 at 11:13 am

    54. Junaid From The Bronx January 1st, 2010 at 2:09 pm

You’ve done well online, but of course everyone needs to move on at some point.

You’re an intelligent guy and I have only high hopes for you my friend. I trust your decision and am confident you must be doing this for a very good reason. You’re a married man, and sometimes blogging just loses its priority or things just come up in life.. and that’s expected.

Thank you what you have done for the online Muslim community.

Well done and good luck Amir!

    55. Ilm January 1st, 2010 at 3:03 pm

      Salaam from Singapore.

I’m an avid reader of your blog. I’ve learned many things about Muslims in America from your blog.

Thank you for everything and all the best for your future endeavour.

    61. student January 2nd, 2010 at 12:15 am

      Dear MR,

Didn’t you know that when you started blogging you signed an implicit contract saying that if you ever become popular, you will be required to continue blogging indefinitely to meet the needs of your readership? The only way out of this is to become terribly unpopular. Then no one will care if you quit.

Always remember, your readers have a right over you. And you have no rights.

Also, don’t you believe in democracy? This is Web 2.0, and your readers are active participants. Do not try to flout the will of the people. Only dictators do that.

      In conclusion, consider yourself served.

    62. student January 2nd, 2010 at 12:20 am

In all seriousness, I pray that you find ways to do something even more meaningful, whether for yourself or others.

And I hope the rest of you find other blogs to read. :)

    63. thelegacymaker January 2nd, 2010 at 1:05 am

first tariq nelson, now you? May Allah reward you for all you good in this past decade..

    64. h. ahmed January 2nd, 2010 at 2:31 am

      as salaam alaikum

Let us all keep Amir and his family in our duas.

Amir, focus on your priorities and i for one pray for u and ur family’s success, health, and well being.

    65. Doudster January 2nd, 2010 at 3:30 am

I was never a fan of the cherry picked Israel/Palestine articles or the incoherent babble from kids on the Lil Wayne praises Allah , I mean cHopPaH … but I’ve seen many good articles. In fact, most were good and I know MR meant well. I know MR personally enough to say he’s a good person and good Muslim. :)

    66. Zecchetti January 2nd, 2010 at 4:42 am

      Salaam MR,

Bro, why are you making us cry? Why are you going?

If you find it busy, then I still advise you to reconsider. Although I may disagree with you on many points, I still feel there is a lot of khair in your blog. You have done what few could do…. bridge the gaps between salafis and sufis.

Struggles aren’t supposed to be easy bro. I say continue, but with a change. How about, registering new users who can also contribute to this blog? That would take some weight off your shoulders.

    67. Chuck January 2nd, 2010 at 5:45 am

      Salam,

I’ve been reading your blog for 5 years now. It’s actually the first blog I ever subscribed to. Thank you for providing your insights and ideas over all these years.

    68. Sayed January 2nd, 2010 at 6:56 am

I really enjoyed your blog since i got this link two years ago. I don’t the reason why you are quitting but one request ….. create another or several “Mujahideen Ryder” and then leave.

    69. soufian January 2nd, 2010 at 8:56 am

    71. sundoc January 2nd, 2010 at 11:15 am

      Salam dear brother,

I’ve been reading your blog for many years now… rarely (if ever commented though!).

While I am saddened, the fact is that life is about change and perhaps this change is what is good for you and your akhirah, may Allah Ta’ala put much Barakah in it.

Take care sidi and hope to bump into you some day.
      Wasalam

    72. Holly Garza January 2nd, 2010 at 11:22 am

Asalaamu alaikum wa ramatulahi wa barakatu

InshaAllah everything you do may continue to be pleasing unto Allah and consider keeping the blog, maybe you could post quarterly or something?

    73. Muneeb January 2nd, 2010 at 12:52 pm

      Salaam Brother MR,

Thank you for the blogs you have posted on your site. You were a good role model for me and I am proud to call you a brother.
You have helped me understand Islam from the first day I came upon your blogs.
I am sad to say goodbye. You have a mission to please Allah and that should always be your main objective. Doesn’t just have to be all about pleasing your readers.
How ever I would like to ask if you can maybe list some of your sources, websites or other bloggers you would personally recommend.
I need some where to get useful information.

Again thank you for everything, you will be missed by everyone.
I hope the best for you and your family.

      Allah Hafiz,
      Muneeb

Assalamu alaikum. Indeed this is sad. You said “The blog was bound to come to an end as do everything.” Almost everything, insha Allah your efforts and service to the ummah will be a means for you to enter the eternal abode of Jannah. May Allah continue to give you the strength to serve Him for the rest of your life and accept your service insha Allah.

Been reading your blog for a long time now. Never really posted comments. Just a silent observer who has benefited from your posts. Your blog seems to be a thermometer of the American Muslim community, measuring attitudes on several matters. Its reflected how we as an Ummah have grown and are growing. Jazakallah for your efforts. May Allah bless you and your efforts and reward you for your actions. Ameen.

      Assalaamu Alaikum.

It is a shame that MR is leaving the Muslim blogosphere.

So now that’s Izzy Mo, Tariq Nelson, and now Mujahideen Ryder. Oh yeah, and who can forget Anwar Al-Awlaki’s blog (say whatever you want about him, his blog was very popular).

Well, if I may plug my own blog, you can read a fascinating story about my personal view of Islam in America at Muslim-religion.net.

      Happy trails, MR.

      Salaams.

    90. Abs January 7th, 2010 at 3:22 pm

Perhaps now you can finally write me that letter I’ve so longed to read from you:)

      Asalaamu Alaaikum

My sister followed your blog for a long time. She’s what you call a dedicated reader, she even browses it through mobile. I’m sure shes really going to miss the new posts.

Now, I don’t necessarily agree with all of your views but I am sad to see you go because there have been many beneficial posts. I can see why you would want to stop the blog, it takes a lot of time and effort, requires a lot of attention and focus, sometimes we can’t balance everything so it’s good to just step back and take a break.

Well, I do wish you the best in this life and the hereafter. May Allah forgive and guide us all, ameen

      Take it easy insha’Allah

      Ma’Salaama

      Assalamu-alaikum bro,

For many of us youth growing up here trying to be practicing Muslims…and at the same time being exposed to the western culture and undeniably being influenced…(the way we talk, dress..etc)…we need as many sources as we can get to show us a balanced approach to living here…whether it be an imam who grew up here but learned sound knowledge…or whether it be a program on television..in your case, it came through the form of a blog…I’ve been reading your blog for several years…and would often read it when wanting to read something more light or when taking a break…I found it very enjoyable yet beneficial as your topics ranged from hadith or ayats of Quran to world news to something silly a professional athlete has done….jazak Allah for all your hard work and insh’Allah you’ll continue to use this energy for more projects for the benefit of our ummah….may Allah accept our efforts and grant us Paradise after our very short time on this earth…..Ameen

    96. Musa January 20th, 2010 at 11:35 pm

      Jazakullah khrayr

Your blog gave me so much over the past 4 years I’ve read it, showing me all the good halal media on the internet and inspiring me to think about the issues you post about. I’m sure there are other good blogs, but mujahideenryder.net was really unique in way it read.

I hope your next efforts are successful

      wa alaikum assallam

Sad to hear, please don’t delete this blog. As you have matured in your views, I too have grown and benefited. This blog is a living breathing testament to the American Muslim experience in N. America. It will go down in history biithnillah so please keep it even if you don’t update it, k?

Islam-qa.com is possibly the best Islamic QA website on the net MashaAllah. I would encourage all Muslims to visit and to either read the thousands of answers already available or ask one of their own.

Ah ha, I knew you were a Redditor. Your articles were always somewhat similar to articles I’ve read on that site.

      What?!?!?!
      Astaqfirallah,
I’ve always checked your site and I love this site and what Mujahideenryder is ending in 2010??????
Look you may be the most famous imam on this site and you’re the admin and I’ve always respected everything you do but now…….Quiting this site………………..Just scorched our hearts and ripped them.
Atleast make someone else the admin of this site or something but we need-d-d-d-d you.
I love the deen music, I respect your athority and everything you do, the complaints in the past was mostly about you, I’d hate to hear the news that this is the end for this Islamic website is coming to an end.
You made our worlds just look obscured with destruction but leaving a little light through.
One thing I’d ask before you leave for an entirnty; if you ever have time contact me on MSN or email at Andrnick77@hotmail.com.
I’d love to hear news from you and how your doing and what your studying in islamic deen so please contact me.
-Dearly from your dear member of this site; Abdurahaman

I love this blog. MR has done a great job. :) But i have good news for my fellow Muslims here. Im a medical student in Pakistan, and I have made a blog for the purpose of introducing true Islam to Non-Muslims and providing a great resource for Muslims. Its called: http://quranicperspective.blogspot.com
So dont worry if MR is gone. Iv provided an alternative. :) You’ll find all ur questions about Islam, Quran, Muslims, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), women, war etc answered on my blog. Plus lots of helpful links to other useful websites on the internet.
May Peace be upon all the people of the world! :) Peace within and peace without.
