The European delay of LittleBigPlanet we mentioned earlier has blossomed into a worldwide recall of the game due to passages from the Islamic holy text Qur’an being included in the background music in one of the levels.

“During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an,” admitted the company in a statement.

“We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.”

Yesterday a reader sent us a link to a music file containing the two offending phrases, which can be found here. Hit the jump for the translation of the offending phrases.

The words are:

1- In the 18th second: “كل نفس ذائقة الموت” (“kollo nafsin tha’iqatol mawt”, literally: ‘Every soul shall have the taste of death’).

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: “كل من عليها فان” (“kollo man alaiha fan”, literally: ‘All that is on earth will perish’).

It seems it was an Arabic song that was added to the soundtrack for the game. I am really surprised and appreciative that Sony went out of their way (they will lose a lot of money) to remove this song from the game.  We should buy products from Sony in support for their kindness of removing the song from this game.  In fact, I think I will buy this game.  Although as a Muslim, I believe that it didn’t really matter if the song was added to the game or not.  I wouldn’t be offended at all if the game had that song in it.

Second to Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter has been one of the most popular 2-player fighting games in the 80s-90s. It’s a classic game that only people between the ages of 20 and 35 had the privilege of playing during their childhood years.

Capcom plan on releasing Street Fighter IV in 2009 for PS3 and Xbox 360. Classic characters like Ryu, Blanca, and others will return as well as new characters.

This was a last minute video done for my Film History and Theory class. It was extra credit (Which I needed!). All the footage was recorded in a total time of about 3 hours. Editing the video took about another 4 hours. God willing, the professor will like it!

The worldwide online Muslim community is about to experience something totally different. An all exclusive online forum dedicated to only one topic: Sports.

Why Sports Halaqah?

Aren’t there sports forums out there already? Yes, but they have a not-so-halal environment. They talk about sports, but also discuss women, post pictures, videos, advertise haram items/events and other fitna. Sports Halaqah is a clean forum dedicated to all Muslims who love sports and want to discuss it others.

Sports Halaqah can also serve as dawah. One thing sports does for Muslims is bring many different types together. You can have a fistful length bearded brother and a clean-shaven, clubbin’ Muslim on the forum, but both will be talking and discussing there favorite sports team or a game and get along fine. The Muslims who are confused about Islam, we’ll realize, “hey, these big bearded brothers are cool after all!”. Not only is it potential dawah to lost Muslims, but also non-Muslims. They will be shocked to find a Muslim forum dedicated to talking about sports and not jihad for a change. Maybe some Islam hater will join in on the discussion. Who knows!

I’m asking all my Muslim brothers and sisters who are into sports, whatever it may be, to join the forum and relax your mind from your busy lives and enjoy yourselves with some sports discussion. It ain’t haram (unless your missing salah or some obligatory act).
